A Day in the Life (of the food I shove in my mouth)

I’ve wanted to post a daily eats post for a while, partly to share with ya’ll what I eat on a daily basis and partly for my own curiosity. This will not turn into a daily, weekly, or even monthly thing because a lot of the food I eat is just plain boring.

But Tuesday’s are kind of my ‘day off’ so I thought this would be fun. And I am trying to tame the sugar beast.

I normally wake up pretty early and today I slept in till 6:30am, go me. On most days I then head straight to the gym without eating. I wanted to do a longer workout today so I ate a date with  peanut butter inside. Best thing ever. This fueled me for a 3 mile run plus a full body strength training workout.

When I got home I immediately made a protein smoothie. It’s funny because a year ago I wouldn’t dream of having smoothies, but now I have one most days of the week. My go to combo is some almond milk, rolled oats, 1 scoop Sun Warrior protein powder, some blueberries and some strawberries.

I am usually freezing after drinking it so I make myself some tea. I don’t drink coffee but LOVE tea.

The smoothie didn’t hold me over as much as I hoped for so a few hours later I made myself a piece of toast topped with some arugula pesto I made the other day.

I usually tell myself to have a salad for lunch but then lunchtime rolls around and I always want something different. In a skillet I cooked up some red potatoes, bell peppers and kale. I added some already cooked quinoa and a hefty dose of nooch.

And then I topped all of it with arugula. And nooch and hot sauce. We’ve been on a big arugula kick lately and I need to get through our current container! And I guess this then SORT OF makes it a salad.

I normally get sugar cravings after lunch, not dinner, so in an effort to curb that I’ve been following up lunch with some fruit. Today I had some not good blueberries. That’s what I get for buying out of season produce.

A few hours later I was feeling snacky and still had a sugar craving going on. I liked the peanut butter stuffed date I had this morning so much that I decided to have 2 for an afternoon snack.

I think I need to start eating a larger afternoon snack because by 4pm I was starving. I went over different food options and decided to actually eat something more substantial. I made a mini veggie burger with a leftover chickpea patty and an english muffin.

Dinner was part of our clean out the fridge. I ate a salad with arugula, carrots, cabbage and broccoli.

And roasted some brussels sprouts, kale and sweet potatoes. Served with some quinoa and another chickpea patty.

It’s definitely interesting looking at your eats from an entire day. I do eat a lot but for the most part it’s healthy. I probably need some variety, but I trying to get rid of food right now.
On another note, this is the first post I have made with Windows Live Writer. My main computer is a Mac and I use iPhoto and Flickr and the actual WordPress site for blogging, but I have a Netbook that I am taking on our trip. I am trying to familiarize myself with Windows Live Gallery and Live Writer hoping that it will make updating a lot quicker. So far it’s just awkward…

  1. Ooohhhh your trip is so soon!

    1. Love your eats for the day. I’ve been craving dates like CRAZY and need to go find some! Whole Foods didn’t have any on Sunday!!!!!!!

    2. I like how thick your smoothie is. I make mine just as thick, and I actually take one sip of smoothie and one sip of tea or I am way too cold. Kind of funny. I haven’t had one in a long time though.. maybe it’s time to make one!

    3. We went to Maoz the other day for the first time. The fries were lovely. So was the cucumber tomato salad. I can’t wait to go back. My uncle’s falafel is better though 😀

    • Haha I am glad you went there! I know it’s not the BEST falafel but it’s great for some cheap food. I need to try your uncles though!

  2. I really need to start making smoothies! We usually have blueberries, strawberries, and protein powder on hand most of the time as well as milk, so perhaps throwing something together shouldn’t be too difficult =p

No wonder I’ve been having the worst time trying to find blueberries! I didn’t know they were out of season. The tiny ACME near me doesn’t even carry them at all now, so I went to a Super Fresh. They’re still good but I noticed they’re not as great as usual.

Do the chickpea patties you use come pre-packaged? I usually make my own chickpea sandwich filling, but it takes forever and I hate doing it haha…would be awesome to find something like that that I could just throw on a sandwich.

    • Gah I wish I could find premade chickpea patties!! I usually make a batch at once and we eat through the week.
The only good premade burger I have found is the Sunshine brand, mainly because they are made from nuts, seeds and rice!

  3. OOO I’ve been wanting to do this too but just never have. Everything looks awesome. 🙂

  4. Live writer changed my life. Hopefully you will get used to it fast 🙂 I hate the regular wordpress dashboard, but I download photos straight onto my hard drive (not flicker) and upload from there. I want a MAC!

    • I think since I am doing it on such a small computer it’s more of a pain, because EVERYTHING is a pain on my netbook.

If you get a Mac I highly recommend doing with a refurbished one! They are a lot cheaper and most of them have never been opened.

  5. Arugula pesto sounds amazing! I must make some myself!
Also, we have two of those graphic mugs in our home, thanks to my lovely sister-in-law.
    Nice post!

    • It’s so easy to make and really nutritious!

I love the Anthro mugs. I have a little one with an L and then of course the big one with a C. I need to get one for Eric!

  6. Wow, that is just perfect! I am craving a pesto toast now and blueberries.

  7. I’m so happy to have found your blog!

I would never think of dates and pb. Everything here looks delicious!
