After crashing hard Saturday night I was up early and ready to run the streets of Chicago! There was a planned group run, but I was up fairly early, and it was already getting out hot, so Eric and I took off by ourselves.
Our hotel was just a few blocks from the lakefront trail and I do not even know how to put into words how jealous I am of the trail.
It was so hot and humid outside, but they had multiple water fountains, and even volunteers standing outside with water and gatorade.
I think I would be a triathlon machine if I lived here. Being able to practice open water swims on a regular basis would be awesome.
Eric and I ran about 6 miles, but it was hard to stop, I wanted to keep seeing more and more of the city!
We showered and packed our bags, then headed up north to The Chicago Diner.
They have a lot of stuff on the menu, and it took us a while to decide. We heard they had the best milkshakes, so we started with the chocolate chip cookie dough milkshake.
Then we ordered a a bunch of food, with plans to take some back on the airplane.
For appetizers we rolled with the cinnamon roll and biscuits and gravy, with a side of sausage. The cinnamon roll is the best cinnamon roll I have ever had. Vegan or not. It puts all others to shame.
For my actual breakfast I went with the breakfast potatoes and french toast. The french toast was amazing, they seem to get the ‘egg’ wash down just right.
Eric ordered the Radical Reuben, which our waitress recommended. It was sliced seitan, onions, peppers, sauerkraut, vegan Thousand Island dressing, and cheeze.
All of the food was amazing. I really liked this place and can’t wait to return. All of the servers were awesome and really friendly which is a change of pace from being in the Northeast.
We walked around the area a little bit, then headed by Wrigley field.
And then made our way to the airport. I am glad this trip worked out, and we both had a blast in Chicago. I’m even trying to convince Eric that we should move there someday. Hopefully we will get to go back sooner rather than later because there is still a lot of things I want to do and see.
